Archaeological Museum


The State Museum alias Government Archaeological Museum, formerly known as Bhopal Museum, is located on the picturesque Shyamla Hills, near to the Museum of Man and the Regional Science Centre. Devoted to archaeology, the State Museum, established in 1964 exhibits the comprehensive rich cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh and is a treasure house of antiquities such as coins, sculptures, terracotta, paintings, handicrafts etc. 

The most significant place to visit in the city is the archeological museum. This museum was established in the year 1964 and is one of the most significant of all the other museums and galleries of the town. Archaeological Museum of Bhopal holds a significant place among the monuments and museums of Bhopal. The museum is the miniature form of the rich traditions of the state. The important things to watch are paintings of different schools, statues of the Hindu Goddess of Wealth also called as Lakshmi, and magnificent statues of Buddha. The museum houses a gamut of splendid tribal handicrafts, musical instruments, bronze objects belonging to the 12th century and much more. Images of the Hindu deities such as Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and the fine sculpture of the Khajuraho amorous couple are worth the mention. Peoples can reveal the glorious pasts of the MP in this museum. The arrangements of the various sculptures is very beautiful.
